CSB/UWEC ResultsSARTELL, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict tennis team kicked off its home schedule with a close loss to UW-Eau Claire in a nonconference match Saturday afternoon at Fitness Evolution in Sartell, Minn.
The Blazers (2-7) led the Blugolds 2-1 after doubles play, but UWEC won five of the six singles matches to come away with a 6-3 victory. Eau Claire is now 8-2 overall.
Daley Rupar and
Rachel Raden picked up the first win of the day for CSB with an 8-2 victory over Sarah Henderson and Paige Kuepers at No. 2 doubles.
Cassy Finn and
Taylor Kraemer followed suit with an 8-6 win over Olivia Gallagher and Mariah LaVold at No. 3 doubles.
Laura Finn and
Victoria Beach fell 8-4 at the No. 1 doubles spot to give the Blazers a 2-1 advantage after doubles play.
The Blugolds won five of six singles matches, but two of the five played out to tiebreakers and, had they gone the other way, would have meant victory for CSB.
Laura Finn picked up the lone singles win for the Blazers at No. 2 singles. She lost the first set 6-4, won the second 6-4 and then won the tiebreaker 10-5.
Rupar and
Ellen Stensrud both took their matches to tiebreakers at No. 1 and No. 6 singles, respectively. Rupar lost the first set 6-2, won the second 6-1 and then lost a close tiebreaker 10-6 to Maddie Johnson at No. 1 singles. At No. 6 singles, Stensrud lost 4-6, 7-6 (8-6), 1-10.
Beach fell 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 singles, Kraemer lost 6-3, 6-2 at No. 4 singles and
Cassy Finn lost 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5 singles.
The Blazers are back in action and at home again Sunday, March 15, when they host St. Thomas in a MIAC matchup at noon at Fitness Evolution.
