EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The College of Saint Benedict volleyball team split a pair of nonconference matches Saturday morning at the Eau Claire Tournament. CSB started the day with a 3-0 sweep of UW-Stout, but lost its second match of the day 3-1 to host-school UW-Eau Claire.
Saint Benedict started the day with three close wins in its sweep of the Blue Devils. The Blazers won 26-24, 25-20 and 25-22.
Laura Schmitt had a match-high 13 kills to go along with eight digs.
Briana Schmiesing added 11 kills and
Megan Pekarek had 33 assists.
Megan Barta paced the CSB defense with 12 digs and
Meghan Koop added nine.
After losing the first set 25-23 to UW-Eau Claire, the Blazers jumped to a 7-3 lead in the second set thanks in part to two kills each from
Mary Franz and Schmiesing. CSB won the second set 25-17 to tie the match at 1-1 against the Blugolds, but Eau Claire held on to win the next two 25-17 and 25-21.
Schmiesing led CSB with 13 kills and Schmitt finished with 10. Pekarek had 34 assists, eight digs and seven kills. Barta led the team with 18 digs, Koop added 16, Schmitt finished with 14 digs and
Gabi Narvaez added 12 digs.
The Blazers (14-7) are back at home Wednesday, Oct. 21 when they wrap up nonconference play against St. Scholastica. The match starts at 7 p.m. in Claire Lynch Hall.
