ST. PAUL, Minn. – After a pair of losses last week, the College of Saint Benedict volleyball team bounced back Wednesday night with a quick 3-0 sweep of Hamline University.
The Blazers improved to 13-6 overall and 6-2 in the MIAC with the 25-16, 25-14, 25-13 win in St. Paul, Minn.
CSB jumped out to a quick lead in the first two sets on its way to a 2-0 lead over the Pipers. Hamline (9-11, 2-5) took a 5-1 lead early in the third set, but CSB tied the set at six and then was able to pull away thanks in part to a 9-0 run where
Meghan Koop scored eight straight points.
Lauren Mathews had three straight kills during the run.
Mathews and
Laura Schmitt both finished with nine kills to pace CSB, which had 35 kills to Hamline's 24.
Briana Schmiesing added eight kills. Schmitt also had 13 digs and
Megan Barta added 10 and setter
Megan Pekarek finished with 27 assists.
Julia Zolnosky led Hamline with nine kills and Amelia Jensen had nine digs. Jensen also finished with eight assists.
The Blazers are on the road again Saturday, Oct. 17, when they travel to Eau Claire, Wis., for a pair of matches at the UW-Eau Claire Tournament. CSB takes on UW-Stout at 10 a.m. and host-school Eau Claire at noon.
