PAUL, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict swimming and diving team returned to the Midwest Friday night after its nine-day training trip in Florida, and the Blazers got back to business right away. CSB competed against St. Thomas Saturday afternoon in the Ugly Sweater Invitational in St. Paul, Minn.
The Blazers finished the meet with five wins – four individual and one relay – but St. Thomas was able to edge CSB, 120-112.
Saint Benedict swept the diving competition.
Megan Lawson won the one-meter dive title with a 216.9.
Alissa Lager finished second with a 215.9,
Carissa Gaffy-Sanford took fourth with a 156.3 in her first competition back with the Blazers after studying abroad and
Brooke Alexander took fifth with a 146.6. Lager won the three-meter dive with a 197.9, Gaffy-Sanford finished second (180.25) and Alexander took third (125.95).
First year
Kenzie Young won the 500 freestyle in 5:29.65. She also took third in the 1,000 free in 11:15.69 and third in the 400 individual medley in 4:57.31.
Grace Hesse also picked up an individual win for Saint Benedict. She took first in the 100 breaststroke in 1:15.09.
The 200 freestyle relay squad of
Emma Ridgeway,
Lauren Noel,
Hannah Manley and
Meghan Harder combined to win the event in 1:46.76.
Haley Chatelaine,
Katherine Maguire,
Amy Nemanich and
Alexandra Alviani took second in 1:54.14.
The 200 medley relay squad of Ridgeway, Hesse,
Laura Peterson and
Kristina Rudin finished second in 1:57.64. Chatelaine finished second in the 500 free in 5:43.85 and fifth in the 1,000 free in 11:48.17. Nemanich took third in the 500 free (5:45.71). Rudin took second in the 100 free (57.54) and fourth in the 200 free (2:04.56) and Harder was fourth in the 100 free (58.24).
Harder and Peterson took third and fourth, respectively, in the 50 free. Harder finished in 26.1 seconds and Peterson in 26.29 seconds.
Hannah Iverson took fourth in the 400 individual medley in 5:04.11. Peterson took third in the 100 butterfly in 1:02.09 and
Taylor Graham was fifth in 109.96. Ridgeway took fourth (1:06.23) and Iverson fifth (1:07.92) in the 100 backstroke, and
Kaylee O'Connell took second (1:15.75) and Alviani third (1:17.95) in the 100 breaststroke.
The Blazers are back at St. Thomas Saturday, Jan. 17, for the Meet of the Saints starting at 9 a.m. in St. Paul, Minn.
