Lakeville, Minn. – The Saint Benedict tennis team was in fine form today (Apr. 12), taking a 7-2 win on the road over Macalester.
The Blazers (10-9, 3-4 MIAC) opened the day with a 2-1 lead after doubles play, and then took wins in each of the top three singles matches to lock up the win.
Jamie Hoffman (Bemidji, Minn.) led the way with a straight set 6-0, 6-0 victory, scoring her first sweep since her first year. She also improved to 3-1 on the year at No. 3 singles.
Daley Rupar (Merrill, Wis.) snapped out of a losing skid with a swift 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 1, and was one of three Blazers on the day to take at least one set 6-0. It was Rupar's eighth win of the season, tying her with Hoffman for second on the team.
Scoring her team best 13th win was Laura Finn (Delano, Minn.), as she took a 6-2, 6-4 decision at the No. 2 spot.
Ellie Black (Litchfield, Minn.) also won 6-3, 6-0 at No. 5, and Mackenzie Rixe (Rogers, Minn.) won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 6.
Clinching win No. 10, on the season, head coach Scott Larsen has now won at least 10 matches in each of his eight seasons at the helm.
The Blazers return to action tomorrow with a 9 a.m. match at Saint Mary's in Winona.
