Sartell, Minn. – The Saint Benedict tennis team fell 9-0 at home to Gustavus on Sunday (Mar. 16), but battled throughout the line-up with the high powered Gusties.

The Blazers (7-5, 1-2 MIAC) had three different sets go to a tiebreak, while a pair of singles match-ups went to a third set. Unfortunately, though, it was the Gusties (6-1, 3-0 MIAC) who came out ahead each time, winning for the sixth straight time.

Each of the top three matches in singles action could have flipped the Blazers way, with Jamie Hoffman (Bemidji, Minn.) and Laura Finn (Delano, Minn.) losing in three sets at No. 2 and No. 3 singles respectively. Hoffman's deciding third set was 10-7, while Finn's was 10-6.

At No. 1 singles, Daley Rupar nearly forced a third set, as she lost the second 7-6 (7-5).

The Blazers will take a break from MIAC play for a moment, heading to Sioux Falls, S.D. next weekend for a pair of matches with Division II competition. At 2:30 p.m. on Mar. 22 they play at Augustana, and then at 6:30 p.m. the same day, they'll play against Bemidji State.
