Live StatsST. JOSEPH, Minn. – After taking a big 3-0 win against Saint Mary's Friday night, the Saint Benedict volleyball team gets ready to face off against Carleton Saturday, Oct. 4. This will be the Blazers' fifth MIAC matchup this season and they have yet to lose a set against a MIAC team. With a 12-5 overall record and a conference record of 4-0, the Blazers will face off against the Knights at 3 p.m. in Claire Lynch Hall.
About the Knights: The Knights are currently sitting with a record of 10-6 and have gone 0-4 against MIAC teams this year. They are also heading into this game on a four-game losing streak and will be looking to stop their mid-season slide. After facing the Blazers, the Knights will be halfway through an eight-game streak of conference games and will need to gain some conference wins before it is too late.
Last Year: In the last matchup between these two teams, the Blazers swept the Knights in Northfield. The teams kept the first two sets close as the Blazers took 25-21 wins in both of them. The Blazers went on to take a big 25-14 win to finish the night.
Lexi Rinde totaled 14 kills and finished with a hitting percentage of .400.
Mary Franz and
Sophie Stangl each added another eight kills and Franz racked up four blocks.
Victoria Nass also added to the team's defensive success by capturing 16 digs.
The Storyline: The Blazers look to continue their undefeated streak against MIAC teams as they get ready to face off against St. Thomas next week. A five-game winning streak would be a huge momentum swing to push the Blazers through the second half of conference play. The Knights will also be fighting hard to take their first conference win of the season.
Who to Watch: Laura Schmitt leads the Blazers with 184 kills this season with
Mary Franz adding another 137. Franz also leads the team with 46 total blocks.
Taya Kockelman is currently leading the MIAC with 10.97 assists per set and
Victoria Nass sits in fourth place in the MIAC with 322 digs.
Last Time Out: In their last time out, the Blazers captured their fourth conference win of the season against Saint Mary's. They started the night with a 25-21 win in the first set and followed with a 25-20 win in the second. The third set was even closer as the Blazers walked way with a 27-25 win.
