Spring Lake Park, Minn. – The Saint Benedict tennis continued its strong fall season this weekend, scoring a big 5-4 win over Minnesota State on Saturday (Sept. 28).
Â
The Blazers (4-0) were originally scheduled to play at the Macalester Mixer, but poor weather and rain in the area canceled the event. CSB and MSU were each set to play in the mixer, and instead rescheduled the dual match against each other.
Â
Things started well for the Blazers, as they led 2-1 after doubles play.
Jamie Hoffman (Bemidji, Minn.) and
Laura Finn (Delano, Minn.) kept their impressive start going, putting CSB up 1-0 early with an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles.
Â
Erin Stocker (St. Cloud, Minn.) and
Megan Hintz (Brainerd, Minn.) checked in next with an 8-6 win at No. 3 doubles, putting the Blazers up 2-0.
Â
Hoffman also closed out the match win with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles, putting the Blazers up 5-2 to secure the victory.
Â
Daley Rupar (Merril, Wis.) started out the wins in singles play, scoring a 6-2, 6-2 victory at the top spot, while Finn was next in the books with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles, setting the stage for Hoffman to bring it home.
Â
The Blazers closed the fall season with a perfect 4-0 record in dual matches. They are now off until the spring semester, returning to action in February.
