Conference Opener
: The Saint Benedict volleyball team once again extended their winning streak and improved their record to 11-0. Even more impressive is that they have won 33 of their last 34 sets. Although the Blazers have had much success this season, they have yet to face a MIAC team. Wednesday night (Sept. 18) at 7 p.m. in Minneapolis they will match up against Augsburg in the first MIAC game of the season.

About the Auggies: Augsburg has also jumped out to a good start on the season. With a record of 11-2, the Auggies are coming off a seven-game winning streak ending with a first place finish in the Gustavus Adolphus Tournament. The Auggies are currently standing in third place in the MIAC right now behind only the Blazers and St. Thomas. Two of the top-three hitters statistically play for the Auggies, as Ashley Peper and Colleen Ourada rank first and third with 4.73 and 3.89 kills per set respectively. Also among the eaders is Emily McCourt who ranks second at 11.14 assists per set and Katelyn Berens whose 5.93 digs per set also rank second.

The Storyline: The Blazers continued success has helped them climb the rankings and currently sit at No. 15 in the country and will be looking to push through the highest non-ranked team in the MIAC. This is also their first of five consecutive MIAC match-ups and will now get the chance to apply their momentum towards conference play. After this streak, the Blazers go to the Saint Mary's Cardinal Invitational and have one non-MIAC game for the rest of the year. If the Blazers can take a win from the Auggies, they will begin a roll towards the MIAC Tournament with almost exclusively MIAC contests.

Last Meeting: The Blazers also opened MIAC play with Augsburg last season, welcoming the Auggies to Claire Lynch Hall. The Blazers jumped out to a 2-0 lead, but the Auggies battled back to push the Blazers to a fifth set. After the Blazers' hit .333 and .170 in the first two sets respectively, the Auggies came back with .323 and .220 marks in the third and fourth sets. In the fifth, though, the Blazers regrouped and turned up the defense, holding the Auggies to a -.214 mark as the hosts took the win. Lexi Alm has 19 kills in the win, and Taya Kockelman had 50 assists.

Who to Watch: Lexi Alm and Chelsea Rachel currently have the second and third best service aces per set averages in the MIAC, Alm with 0.55 and Rachel with 0.53. Taya Kockelman also leads the MIAC with 11.77 assists per set. Rachel has put up great numbers defensively and leads the Blazers in digs with 3.73 per set. Lexi Rinde has also added 100 kills with a hitting percentage of .356. As a team, the Blazers are first in the MIAC right now in hitting percentage with a .273 average.
