St. Paul, Minn. – The Saint Benedict, tennis team has the match locked up against Hamline, leading 6-0 before play was suspended due to rain.
The Blazers opened with a sweep through doubles, starting with an 8-1 win from
Aly Dahlquist and
Beth Richmond at No. 6 singles.
Jamie Hoffman and
Daley Rupar at No. 1 and
Victoria Beach and
Ellie Black at No. 2 each posted 8-2 wins as the Blazers ran out to a 3-0 lead heading into singles play.
The first three singles matches to go complete were enough to lock up the team win for the Blazers, as all three won, pushing the team score to 6-0 with just three decisions remaining.
Beach won at No. 3 singles with a 6-2, 6-4 win, while Black followed her up with a 6-1, 6-2 decision, the most lopsided of the day.
Rupar clinched the team win with her 6-1, 6-4 decision at No. 2, as her win put the Pipers out of reach.
Richmond at No. 5 and Dahlquist at No. 6 are each on match point, looking to lock up their own wins, while
Jamie Hoffman battled back from a rough start to get in front at 7-5, 2-2 before the delay.
Hoffman fell down 5-0, in the first set before rallying back with seven straight points to win.
