St. Peter, Minn. – The Saint Benedict tennis team ran into a streaking Gustavus team today (Apr. 27), falling 9-0.

Gustavus (12-6, 8-1 MIAC) came into the day riding a six-match winning streak, and was just once beaten in conference play. The Blazers (9-8, 3-6 MIAC), meanwhile are coming through the toughest stretch of their season, and lost four straight entering the match.

The result today is a 9-0 loss where seven of the Gusties 12 set wins in singles play were by 6-2 scores or better.

A bit of a shaken up line-up saw Victoria Beach slide up to the No. 2 spot for the first time all season, where she provided the days excitement.

Beach dropped her first set 6-1, but came back to take the second 6-2, forcing the only three-set match of the day. I the third, she battled all the way to a 15th point before falling 15-13 in the tiebreaker.

Ellie Black played her first match of the season at No. 3 singles and dropped a pair of close sets 6-4 and 7-5.

The Blazers will now close out the regular season on Sunday (Apr. 28) at 12 p.m. when they host Saint Mary's outside on the CSB courts. The loss today knocks the Blazers out of a spot in the MIAC Tournament. Even with a win tomorrow and a Bethel loss, the Blazers and Royals would be tied, but BU would have the tiebreaker with the head-to-head win earlier in the season.
