Sartell, Minn. – The Saint Benedict tennis team ran into one of the top teams in the conference today (Apr. 13) as St. Thomas took an 8-1 win.

The Tommies entered with a perfect record in MIAC play, and extended the mark, improving to 7-0 in conference play, with a 12-2 record overall. The Blazers, meanwhile, lose for just the second time in their last eight matches, falling to 8-4 overall and 2-3 in the MIAC.

The Tommies opened the day with a sweep through doubles, but the Blazers didn't go down easy. At No. 2 doubles Daley Rupar and Ellie Black – playing together for the first time – ran out to a 7-4 lead before the Tommies mounted the comeback. St. Thomas battled off several set points on their way to the 9-7 win.

In singles play, Rupar scored the Blazers lone win on the day, taking a 6-4, 6-3 decision to win her team leading 10th match of the season, while winning her fifth straight match, the longest streak of her young career.

With the Blazers' match tomorrow against Saint Mary's postponed until Apr. 28, they will now hope to get outside on Apr. 19 when St. Olaf is scheduled to come to town for a 4 p.m. first serve.
