Back in Action: The Saint Benedict tennis team returns to the court after a 9-0 win over Macalester last week. This time, they're on the road facing off against Concordia College. The match will take place at 5:00 p.m., Mar. 16.
About Concordia: The Cobbers have hit a rough patch in the past month and are currently 0-8 this season and 0-2 in the MIAC. Concordia started out the season with four consecutive shutouts and added two more less than a week later with a 5-3 loss in between.
Last Meeting: The last time these two teams met was in mid-April last season. The Blazers walked away with a 7-2 win. Saint Benedict jumped ahead to a 2-1 lead after doubles play and
Lauren Jones picked up the deciding point with a rally victory while playing through a pulled muscle in her back.
Sarah Rossman rounded out the singles play at No. 3 singles and a near perfect match for
Megan Seipel at No. 4 singles.
Storyline: The Blazers are coming off a 9-0 win and look to continue their momentum to climb up the ranks in the MIAC, where they currently stand in seventh place early in the season. A win for the Blazers tonight could give them a strong push into a five game stretch in the next week at the Hilton Head Beach and Tennis Club next week.
Who to Watch:
Victoria Beach and
Ellie Black currently lead the team with a record of 4-1 in singles play. The pair also leads the team in doubles play, also with a record of 4-1.
Last Time Out: In their most recent match, the Blazers fought hard to take a 9-0 win against Macalester. In the match last week, (Mar. 9) the doubles team of Beach and Black once again led the way as both finished with wins in single play as well as a 9-7 victory in doubles competition.
Up Next: The Blazers go on to play five consecutive matches after Concordia at the Hilton Head Beach and Tennis Club next week. They start this stretch with a match against Converse College at 11:30 a.m. on Mar. 23 and finish up with a match against the University of Scranton at 8:00 a.m. on Mar 27.
