Sartell, Minn. – The Saint Benedict tennis team made it two in a row to open the season, sweeping MSU Moorhead 9-0 on Feb. 7, to start 2013 in perfect fashion.

The Blazers once again got a good start in doubles play, already holding a 3-0 lead as they headed to singles action.

At the top, Jamie Hoffman and Daley Ruper made quick work at No. 1 doubles, as they cruised to an 8-0 win. Through two matches on the year, they have a 16-3 edge on their opponents.

Victoria Beach and Ellie Black checked in next at No. 2 doubles, scoring an 8-6 win, with Beth Richmond and Rachel Raden completing the sweep with their own 8-6 win at No. 3 doubles.

Beach then clinched the team victory with her win at No. 3 singles. In winning 6-2, 6-1, she gave the Blazers their fifth win and a 5-0 lead, as they locked up the 2-0 start.

At the top of the line-up Jamie Hoffman dropped just a single game all day, winning 6-0, 6-1, in addition to her 8-0 win in doubles. After a 7-6 set to open the season, Hoffman has dropped just three games in her last three sets combined, all at No. 1 singles.

Daley Ruper was on the other end of the spectrum at No. 2 singles, opening up with a 7-6 (12-10) win in the first set, before a 6-3 win in the second to move her season record to 2-0. Outside of her first set on Thursday, the Blazer first year has been impressive in her first two matches, scoring wins of 6-1, 6-2 and 6-3, all at No. 2 singles.

As the Blazers closed out the day, the wins got more and more impressive. Beth Richmond win 6-4, 6-2 at No. 4, Ellie Black won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5, and Aly Dahlquist wrapped up the day with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles.

Now at 2-0, the Blazers will take a break from action for the rest of the month, as they get ready for MIAC play as the calendar turns to March. They return to action on Mar. 2 in Minneapolis to take on St. Catherine, before returning home to host Bethel on Mar. 8.
