Volleyball Hosts UW-Superior

The Blazer volleyball team hosts UW-Superior in midweek nonconference action.

After going on a six game winning streak, Saint Benedict fell 3-0 to No. 7 ranked St. Thomas last weekend. But, they return home tonight (Sept. 25) to face the 12-4 University of Wisconsin-Superior.

Last Time Out:
After going on a big six-game winning streak, the Blazers fell to No. 7 ranked University of St. Thomas (14-1, 3-0 MIAC) on Sept. 22. They knew it would be a big test knowing they're playing one of the best teams in the country and came out fighting hard. They lost the first set 25-8 but fought hard in the second set losing 25-20. They then fell in a close third set, losing 25-22. The Blazers racked up the lowest amount of kills and digs all year, with 32 kills and 24 digs. Sophomores Sophie Stangl and Alexa Rinde both had good games, with Stangl finishing with seven kills and Rinde adding another six kills and a hitting percentage of .556. Also Junior Lexi Alm topped it off with eight more kills.

Break in the Action:
The Blazers break up a run of six MIAC games with their midweek nonconference tilt with UW-Superior tonight. Each team enters at 12-4 on the year, with each coming off losses to the preseason conference favorite.

About UW-Superior:
The Yellowjackets enter off consecutive losses, after opening the season 12-2 in nonconference play. Against MIAC teams they are 3-1, beating Saint Mary's, St. Kate's and Macalester, with a loss to Carleton. Their last win came agaisnt a strong St. Scholastica squad, while most recently they fell in four to UW-Stevens Point, a team the Blazers have already split with this season.

Home Stretch:
Tonight starts a season-long stretch of three-straight home matches for the Blazers. With three games over five days, they will cap the week with back-to-back home matches against MIAC opponents Saint Mary's and St. Olaf on Friday and Saturday respectively. With just three home matches so far, the Blazers will surely welcome their break from the road.

League Leaders:
Lexi Alm continues her hold on the top of the MIAC kill charts, as the only player over 200 this season, while her 3.59 per set ranks second in the league. Taya Kockelman leads in assists per set at 10.45, with her 585 overall ranking second, and likewise Victoria Nass' 350 digs lead the MIAC, with her 6.14 per set currently second.
