The Blazer tennis team snatched another win against MIAC rival St. Thomas Tuesday Mar. 27th at the University of Minnesota Baseline Tennis Center at 4 p.m with a final score of 6-3.
At their first match playing together as a doubles team, Megan Seipel and Lauren Jonesdelivered with an 8-3 victory at the two doubles position. Their win inspired the number three doubles team, Alicia Vargas and Sarah Rossman, who had been battling back and forth, to pull through with a competitive match of 9-7. Number one doubles had the opportunity to win the match in regulation but fell just short in a 7-3 tiebreaker.
In singles, Megan Seipel played a flawless match at five singles and overwhelmed her opponent with deep groundstrokes and a ruthless level of play. She quickly picked up the third point of the match with a perfect 6-0, 6-0 win. Lauren Jones picked up the fourth point with a hard fought 6-4, 6-4 win at the two singles position. Lauren increased her level of play and closed out each set. After dropping her first set, Jamie Hoffmanfought back to level her match at the four singles spot and brought some momentum into the super breaker. She played well but ended up losing 6-3, 6-2, (10-6). Alicia Vargas picked up the match point for the Blazers with straight set scores of 6-3, 6-0.
“This was a complete team effort. We were very solid from top to bottom. We had excellent senior leadership tonight and it showed in our level of competition, our composure on the court, and in the score at the end of the night!” head coach Scott Larsen said.
The Blazers look forward to their next conference match against St. Olaf on Friday Mar. 30th at the Owatonna Tennis Center at 6 p.m.
