Moorhead, Minn. - The Saint Benedict volleyball team ended their season in a fantastic way today, sending down the Concordia-Moorhead Cobbers, who came in ranked No. 7 in the region.

The win means the Blazers improve to 10-1 on the conference season, and maintain their second seed and first-round bye for the MIAC postseason tournament. Concordia falls to 7-4 and earns the third seed.

The Blazers dropped the first set 26-24, but then came roaring back to win the next three sets 25-16, 25-20 and 25-22.

Junior outside hitter Lexi Alm led the way for the Blazer offense, husking the Cobbers with 18 kills. The Blazers also got a big day from sophomore outside hitter Alexa Rinde, who finished with 17 kills. On the defensive side of the ball, sophomore defensive specialist Victoria Nass put the team on her back, finishing with 33 digs. The 33 digs was her season-high in games not played against teams from Wisconsin. Sophomore setter Taya Kockelman had a great all-around game, finishing with 10 kills and 15 digs to go along with her 50 assists.

The win caps off one of the greatest regular seasons in the history of Blazer Volleyball. Their 26-4 record is tied for the second most wins since 2000 and their .867 regular-season winning percentage is the best since 2000.

Alm finishes at the top of the MIAC leaderboard in both kills and kills per game, with 403 and 3.91 respectively. Victoria Nass finishes third in the MIAC in digs with 638, and first in digs per set, with 6.13.

Junior middle-hitter Kendra Coleman finishes fith in blocks per set with 0.90. Kockelman finishes the season first in assists per set with 11.27. That mark leaves her just shy of Beth Hanson's record of 11.80, set in 2007. The near-record also puts the rest of the MIAC to shame. The closest contender finishes more than an assist behind her with Carleton's Alicia Flatt finishing at 10.04.

The Blazers will now sit back and watch the rest of the MIAC shake itself out as they enjoy the first-round bye they have earned as the conference tournament's second seed. They will return to action next Thursday, Nov. 1 at home in the tournament's semifinal round.
