Blazer Volleyball Rolls Past Pipers

The College of Saint Benedict Blazer volleyball team (9-5 overall, 2-0 MIAC) defeated conference opponent Hamline University tonight in St. Paul, MN.

Saint Benedict won a quick first set 25-14 to take the lead 1-0. The Blazers had a .333 kill percentage and compiled 13 kills, while holding the Pipers to a .088 kill percentage. CSB took the next 25-19 to give them a 2-0 lead. During the second set, the Blazers notched 17 kills and held Hamline to a .057 kill percentage. The Pipers fought back to close the Blazers lead to one with a 23-25 third set win. Saint Benedict earned 13 kills in the set and a .242 kill percentage.  The Blazers secured the win after taking the fourth set with a strong 25-12 win. They compiled a .308 kill percentage while holding the Pipers to a -.138 kill percentage.

Sophomore middle blocker Kendra Coleman (Pelican Rapids,MN, Pelican Rapids) had eight kills for the Blazers and earned a .389 kill percentage. Leading the Blazers in digs was sophomore libero Chelsea Rachel (Maple Lake, MN, Maple Lake) with 28. Senior outside hitter Chelsie Sobieck (Wyoming, MN, Forest Lake) produced 13 kills with a .273 kill percentage, while first-year outside hitter Alexa Rinde (Minnetonka, MN, Orono) notched 14 kills and earned a .357 kill percentage.

After tonight's match head coach Nicole Hess said that she, "thought we served well tonight and we did a nice job blocking. We'll get back to work tomorrow and prepare for our next match."

Saint Benedict returns to action on Friday, September 23rd, as they host conference opponent St. Thomas University at 7 pm in Claire Lynch Hall.
