The College of Saint Benedict Blazer tennis team (8-5 overall, 3-2 MIAC) defeated MIAC opponent Bethel University (2-9 overall, 0-4 MIAC) 8-1 Friday afternoon in St. Joseph, MN.
Saint Benedict went up 3-0 by sweeping the doubles portion of the match. Juniors
Lauren Jones (Ogden, UT, Saint Joseph Catholic) and
Sarah Rossman (Rochester, MN, Lourdes)defeated Lisa Scheevel and Steph Brown 8-4 at first doubles. At second doubles, senior
Kylie Huether (Sioux Falls, SD , Washington) and junior
Alyson Brandell (Elk River, MN, Elk River) defeated Abby Edin and Leigh Krekalau 8-2. Picking up the third point for the Blazers was first-year
Jamie Hoffman (Bemidji, MN, Bemidji) and junior
Megan Seipel (New London, MN, New London-Spicer). They defeated Amanda Johnson and Kayla Wheeler 8-6 at third doubles.
The Blazers were nearly perfect in singles, winning five of six matches. Seipel picked up the fourth point for Saint Benedict at sixth singles. Megan defeated Wheeler 6-3, 6-2. Hoffman clinched the win for the Blazers at fifth singles, defeating Johnson 6-3, 6-3. Rossman earned another point for the Blazers at fourth singles, defeating her opponent 6-4, 6-3. At third singles, Jones defeated Brown 6-1, 6-3. Huether defeated Edin 6-4. 6-0 at first doubles. The Blazers only loss came at second singles when Scheevel defeated Brandell 7-6 (8-6), 6-2.
The Blazers return to action on Wednesday, April 13th, when they travel to Moorhead, MN to play conference opponent Concordia College (3-8 overall, 0-4 MIAC) at 3:30 pm.
