Carleton Results Upper Iowa Results
The College of Saint Benedict Blazer tennis team (7-5 overall, 2-2 MIAC) went 1-1 this past weekend. On Saturday the Blazers traveled to Northfield, MN and were defeated 2-7 by Carleton. Saint Benedict hosted Upper Iowa University on Sunday afternoon and came out with a win, defeating the Peacocks 5-4.
The Blazers went down 2-1 after doubles against Carleton. Getting the lone win for Saint Benedict was junior
Megan Seipel (New London, MN, New London-Spicer) and first-year
Jamie Hoffman (Bemidji, MN, Bemidji) at third singles. The Blazers went into singles with a lot of energy, but were not able to defeat Carleton's strong first, second, and third singles. Fourth, fifth, and sixth singles were all decided in super tiebreakers. Picking up the Blazers second point was Seipel at sixth singles. Seipel won 6-4, 2-6, 10-6. Junior
Sarah Rossman (Rochester, MN, Lourdes) lost her first set at fourth singles, but won her next set forcing the match into a super tiebreaker. Rossman was defeated in the tiebreaker, picking up her second singles loss of the season. Hoffman also lost her first set and won her second to force her match into a super tiebreaker. Hoffman also lost in the tiebreaker.
Saint Benedict is now two for two at home. Saint Benedict took an early 2-1 lead in doubles against Upper Iowa. Juniors
Sarah Rossman and
Lauren Jones (Ogden, UT, Saint Joseph Catholic) ran into a tough first doubles team and lost 8-3. Senior
Kylie Huether (Sioux Falls, SD , Washington) and junior
Alyson Brandell (Elk River, MN, Elk River) defeated their opponents 8-1 at second doubles. Saint Benedict was perfect at third doubles. Seipel and Hoffman defeated their opponents 8-0. Hoffman picked up a quick 6-0, 6-0 win at fifth singles to give the Blazers a 3-1 lead. Almost immediately after Hoffman won, Upper Iowa picked up a point at second singles. Junior
MacKenzie Rayman (Burnsville, MN, Apple Valley) picked up the fourth point for the Blazers at sixth singles, defeating her opponent 6-4, 6-2. Upper Iowa again brought the match to one point, defeating Huether 6-4, 6-3. The Peacocks tied the match at 4-4 with a win at fourth singles in a tiebreaker. Rossman picked up the win for the Blazers at third singles. She won a well fought back and forth first set that ended in a tiebreaker. She played nearly flawless tennis in the second set and won 6-1. Sarah has been very solid on the court for the Blazers this season.
Saint Benedict travels to Moorhead, MN on Tuesday, April 5th, to play MIAC opponent Concordia College at 3:30 pm.
