Results

The College of Saint Benedict Blazer tennis team (12-6 overall, 7-3 MIAC) lost a hard fought match to MIAC opponent St. Olaf College (11-3 overall, 7-1 MIAC) 4-5 on a cold and windy Friday afternoon in St. Joseph, MN.

The Blazers came out strong in doubles and went ahead 2-1 going into singles. St. Olaf defeated juniors Sarah Rossman (Rochester, MN, Lourdes) and Lauren Jones (Ogden, UT, Saint Joseph Catholic) at first doubles 8-1.  The Blazers came back to win second doubles 8-2, tying the match 1-1.  Junior Megan Seipel (New London, MN, New London-Spicer) and first-year Jamie Hoffman (Bemidji, MN, Bemidji) were down 5-6 at third doubles before a three game rally to win 8-6 and put Saint Benedict up 2-1.

Hoffman gave the Blazers a 3-1 lead with a quick 6-0, 6-0 win at fifth singles.  Seipel extended Saint Benedict's lead 4-1 with a win at sixth singles.  She defeated her opponent 6-1, 6-0.  St. Olaf fought back and picked up competitive wins at second, third, and fourth singles to tie the match 4-4.  The match came down to first singles and senior captain Kylie Huether (Sioux Falls, SD , Washington).  She lost the first set and battled back from a 2-5 deficit to force a tiebreaker where she just fell short of the complete comeback.

Saint Benedict begins post season play on Friday, May 6th, at 3 p.m. in St. Peter, MN.  The opponent will be determined at a later date.
