The College of Saint Benedict Blazer tennis team (12-5 overall, 7-2 MIAC) defeated MIAC opponents Hamline University (2-13 overall, 1-7 MIAC) 9-0 Tuesday night in Lakeville, MN.
Saint Benedict started out with a quick sweep at doubles. The first doubles duo of juniors
Lauren Jones (Ogden, UT, Saint Joseph Catholic) and
Sarah Rossman (Rochester, MN, Lourdes) defeated Nora McGraw and Kelsey Eatherton 8-4. Junior
Megan Seipel (New London, MN, New London-Spicer) and first-year
Jamie Hoffman (Bemidji, MN, Bemidji) defeated Kristen Kiemele and Nicole Krier 8-3 at second doubles. Completing the doubles sweep for the Blazers was juniors
Alyson Brandell (Elk River, MN, Elk River)and
MacKenzie Rayman (Burnsville, MN, Apple Valley) at third doubles. They defeated Anna Yarbrough and Carissa Wallerich 8-2.
The Blazers went six for six in singles. Brandell played her first MIAC number one singles match and picked up a hard fought win to lead the way for the singles sweep. She defeated Eatherton 6-4, 3-6 (10-6). At second singles, Jones defeated Yarbrough 6-3, 6-4. Rossman picked up a point for the Blazers at third singles, defeating Kiemele 6-1, 6-0. Hoffman played extremely well to defeat Krier 6-1, 6-0 at fourth singles. Both Rossman and Hoffman dropped one game each. At fifth singles, Seipel defeated Wallerich 6-3, 6-1. Rayman completed the singles sweep at sixth singles defeating Elizabeth Allen 6-4, 6-3.
The Blazers finish regular season play on Friday, April 29th, when they host conference opponent St. Olaf (10-3 overall, 6-1 MIAC) at 4 pm in St. Joseph, MN.
