The College of Saint Benedict Blazer tennis team (9-5 overall, 4-2 MIAC) defeated conference opponent Concordia College (5-9 overall, 1-5 MIAC) 7-2 Wednesday afternoon in Moorhead, MN.

On a cold and windy day of tennis, Saint Benedict was able to warm up the action with a sweep at doubles.  Juniors Lauren Jones (Ogden, UT, Saint Joseph Catholic) and Sarah Rossman (Rochester, MN, Lourdes)  took an early 3-0 lead at first doubles.  They defeated their opponents 8-3.  Senior Kylie Huether (Sioux Falls, SD , Washington) and junior Alyson Brandell (Elk River, MN, Elk River) defeated their opponents 8-3 at second doubles.  Picking up the doubles sweep for the Blazers was junior Megan Seipel (New London, MN, New London-Spicer) and first-year Jamie Hoffman (Bemidji, MN, Bemidji).  They played a tough back and forth match and persevered to pick up the win, defeating their opponents 8-5 at third doubles.

Hoffman extended the Blazers lead to 4-0 with a win at fifth singles, defeating her opponent 6-3,6-1. Jones sealed the conference win at third singles. She defeated Julie Olson 6-2, 6-0. Concordia won both first and second singles making the score 5-2. Brandell lost a well fought match after winning five straight games in the second set to bring the match to a tie breaker. Rossman picked up the sixth point for the Blazers at fourth singles, defeating her opponent 6-4, 6-3. Seipel picked up the final point for Saint Benedict at sixth singles.

Saint Benedict hosts conference rival University of St. Thomas (9-1 overall, 4-1 MIAC) at noon on Saturday, April 16th, in St. Joseph, MN.
