The College of Saint Benedict Blazer tennis team (4-1 overall, 1-1 MIAC) defeated conference opponent St. Kate's (0-3 overall, 0-3 MIAC) 8-1 Saturday afternoon in Minneapolis, MN.
The Blazers came out slow dropping second doubles and going down 0-1 on the match. The first doubles duo of juniors
Lauren Jones (Ogden, UT, Saint Joseph Catholic) and
Sarah Rossman (Rochester, MN, Lourdes) rallied from a 6-7 deficit to win 9-7 and tie the match 1-1. Saint Benedict gained the lead after third doubles came back from a 5-6 deficit and won 8-6.
The Blazers came out strong in singles and won all six matches. Senior
Kylie Huether (Sioux Falls, SD , Washington) defeated Michaela Burroughs 6-1, 6-3 at first singles. At second singles, Jones won 6-1, 6-4 to give the Blazers a 4-1 lead. Junior
Alyson Brandell (Elk River, MN, Elk River) picked up the game winning point at third singles, defeating Kassie Rust 6-2, 6-2. Rossman defeated Mackenzie Weber 6-7 (10-12), 6-3 (10-1) to get the win at fifth singles. Getting the eighth point for the Blazers was junior
Megan Seipel (New London, MN, New London-Spicer), winning 6-2, 6-2.
Saint Benedict heads to Tuscon, AZ to play Pima Community College at 1 pm on Saturday, March 12th.
