Winona Results UW-La Crosse Results
The College of Saint Benedict Blazer tennis team (6-4 overall, 2-1 MIAC) lost to both Winona State University, 3-6, and the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, 4-5, Sunday in Winona, MN.
Saint Benedict started the day in a match against Winona State University. Winona took an early 2-0 lead after winning both first and second doubles, both matches were 8-5. Juniors Megan Seipel (New London, MN, New London-Spicer) and MacKenzie Rayman (Burnsville, MN, Apple Valley) picked up the Blazers first point at third doubles, defeating their opponents 8-4. The Blazers won two of six singles matches. Junior Sarah Rossman (Rochester, MN, Lourdes) defeated her opponent 6-4, 6-3 at fourth singles. Picking up the other point for the Blazers was Seipel at sixth singles. Seipel defeated her opponent 6-4, 7-6 (9-7).
The Blazers took an early 2-1 lead in doubles against the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. The score was tied 1-1, but Rossman and junior Lauren Jones (Ogden, UT, Saint Joseph Catholic) came from behind at first doubles. They defeated their opponents 9-7. The Blazers lost both first and second singles to go down 2-3 in the match. La Crosse went up 4-2 after winning fourth singles against Rossman. This was Rossman's first singles loss of the season. Rayman defeated her opponent 7-6 (7-4), 3-6 (10-7) at sixth singles to bring the Blazers within one point of La Crosse. Wisconsin sealed the match with a win at third singles defeating Jones 6-1, 3-6, (10-8). Seipel picked up the fourth point for the Blazers at fifth singles. She defeated her opponent 6-4, 7-5.
Saint Benedict continues MIAC play on Saturday, April 2nd, when they travel to Northfield, MN to play conference opponent Carleton College at 2 pm.
