The College of Saint Benedict Blazer tennis team (3-0 overall, 0-0 MIAC) defeated St. Scholastica (4-1 overall, 0-0 UMAC) 5-4 Sunday afternoon in Duluth, MN.
Saint Benedict was perfect at doubles gaining all three points. Number two and three doubles came out strong, giving the Blazers an early 2-0 lead. The first doubles duo of juniors
Lauren Jones (Ogden, UT, Saint Joseph Catholic) and
Sarah Rossman (Rochester, MN, Lourdes) rallied from an early three point deficit to beat St. Scholastica's Callee Conda and Milly Chee Leon 9-7.
St. Scholastica tied the match by winning first, third, and sixth singles. The Blazers gained the lead with a strong performance from Rossman at fourth singles, defeating St. Scholastica's Kelly Johnson 6-1, 6-0. Saint Benedict secured their third win of the season as junior
Alyson Brandell (Elk River, MN, Elk River) defeated St. Scholastica's Milly Chee Leon 6-2, 6-0 at second singles. St. Scholastica picked up their fourth point at fifth singles in a tie breaker.
The Blazers travel to St. Peter, MN to face MIAC opponent Gustavus Adolphus College on Saturday the 26th at 4:30 pm.
