BOX SCORE
The College of Saint Benedict (4-12-3, 3-7-2 MIAC) ice hockey team fell 4-1 this afternoon while playing Saint Mary's University in Winona, Minnesota. The Blazers were trying to string together their second consecutive win in as many days against a Cardinals team currently positioned near the top of the conference standings. Both teams were evenly matched in the statistics with Saint Mary's having a slight edge in faceoffs won and shots on net.
The Blazers quickly found themselves playing from behind two minutes into the opening period when Saint Mary's scored the first of three straight goals on first-year goalie
Kaitlyn Rolando (Lake Elmo, MN, Tartan High School). First-year forward
Allyson Nielsen (Alexandria, MN, Jefferson High School) got the Blazers to within two goals when her shot 35 seconds into the third period found the back of the net, but that was as close as they would come. The goal, Nielsen's second on the year, was assisted by sophomore forward
Catherine Pollock (Tonka Bay, MN, Hopkins High School).
Saint Benedict returns to the Municipal Athletic Complex this Friday, February 18, in a 7:30 pm matchup against Saint Olaf.
