The College of Saint Benedict ice hockey team (4-13-3, 3-9-3 MIAC) lost 5-1 tonight playing at home against Saint Olaf College. Hoping for a victory for parents' night, Saint Benedict was done in by three Ole goals within a span of just over a minute.
Picking up the action in the scoreless first period, both team played evenly with Saint Olaf having a slight advantage outshooting the Blazers 13-7. After the Oles broke the game open in the second period to take a 3-0 lead, Saint Benedict responded with a goal of their own at 03:24 in the third period when junior forward
Amie Ernst's (North Mankato, MN, Mankato Loyola)shot found the back of the net. The goal, Ernst's fourth on the year, was assisted by junior forwards
Brenna Gould (Rosemount, MN, Rosemount) and
Kerri Graske (Stillwater, MN, Stillwater Area).
The goal proved to be as close as Saint Benedict would get before eventually losing 5-1. The Blazers outshot Saint Olaf 33-29 in the game while senior goalie
Abbie Helminen (Brighton, MI, Brighton (Belle Tire)) collected 24 saves in net for the team.
The Blazers are on the road tomorrow as they travel to Northfield, Minnesota to finish their series with the Oles. Faceoff is scheduled for 2 pm.
