The College of Saint Benedict Blazer soccer team (5-4-1 overall, 3-1-1 MIAC) used a high octane offense and cruised to a 5-0 victory Sunday against non-conference Nebraska Wesleyan.
The game started off solid for the Blazers as senior defender
Stephanie Gibbs (Plymouth, MN, Robbinsdale Armstrong) blew one past Nebraska Wesleyan's goalkeeper from 18 yards out, for an early 1-0 lead during the eighth minute. This was the only goal the Blazers scored in the first half, but four more were to come. The Blazers had six shots in the first half, while Nebraska Wesleyan recorded only one.
The Blazers dominated the second half scoring four goals. The first came from first-year forward
Katherine Rogosheske (St. Cloud, MN, Apollo) who was assisted by
Natalia Kruse (Shoreview, MN, Mounds View) on a breakaway to make it 2-0. Less than one minute later, Katherine Rogosheke scored another goal, this time on a header assisted from
Colleen Bouchard (Cedar Rapids, IA, Xavier) to give the Blazers a 3-0 lead.
Twenty minutes later senior forward
Heather Beshears (Maple Grove, MN, Maple Grove)scored her third goal of the season off an assist from Rogosheke to make it 4-0. Shortly after first year midfielder
Alli O'Brien (Stillwater, MN, Stillwater)scored her first goal of the season off a shot blocked by Nebraska Wesleyan's goalkeeper to make it 5-0 in favor of the Blazers.
The Blazers outshot Nebraska Wesleyan 14-4, even though they had eight offsides. First-year goalkeeper
Claire O'Brien (Shoreview, MN, Mounds View)recorded four saves in her first shutout win.
