Blazer Volleyball Defeats Knights 3-0 in First Game of Home Stretch

The College of Saint Benedict Blazer volleyball team (16-9 overall, 7-1 MIAC) defeated conference opponent Carleton College (13-9 overall, 3-5 MIAC) 3-0 Wednesday night in St. Joseph, Minn.

The Blazers took an early 1-0 lead with a 25-19 win over the Knights. Saint Benedict rallied from behind to earn the win as they put up 14 kills. The Blazers carried their intensity into the second set as they defeated Carleton 25-16 to take a 2-0 early. Saint Benedict had a .345 kill percentage while holding the Knights to a .057 kill percentage in the second set. The Blazers took the third set 25-13 to take the match. CSB held the Knights to a .000 kill percentage and earned 16 kills. Saint Benedict generated a .360 kill percentage in tonight's match and held Carleton to a .057 kill percentage.

Leading the Blazers on the attack was senior outside hitter Chelsie Sobieck (Wyoming, MN, Forest Lake). Sobieck earned a double-double in tonight's match with 11 kills and 10 digs. She produced a kill percentage of .500. Sophomore middle blocker Kendra Coleman (Pelican Rapids,MN, Pelican Rapids) had seven kills with a .778 kill percentage. Sophomore setter Kathyrn Gaydos (Savage, MN, Prior Lake) compiled 20 set assists as did first-year setter Taya Kockelman (Minneota, MN, Minneota). Sophomore outside hitter Lexi Alm (Stacy, MN, Forest Lake) produced 10 digs and nine kills with a .348 kill percentage. First-year outside hitterAlexa Rinde (Minnetonka, MN, Orono) earned seven kills in tonight's match and had a .385 kill percentage.

Saint Benedict returns to action at 3 pm on Saturday October 22nd, when they host conference opponent Gustavus Adolphus College (18-7 overall, 5-2 MIAC) in St. Joseph, Minn.
