Early Goals Enough For Wisconsin Stout As Beat the Blazers 3-0

Results

The College of Saint Benedict Blazer soccer team (8-5-1 overall, 6-1-1 MIAC) was beat by a very tough University of Wisconsin Stout team (8-1-1 overall, 4-1-0 WIAC) 3-0 Sunday in St. Joseph, Minn.

The first half started out very strong for Wisconsin Stout as they scored during the ninth minute. Stout's forward Alix Hyduke was assisted by junior Emily in the middle of the field. Hyduke turned right and laced one past first-year goalkeeper Claire O'Brien (Shoreview, MN, Mounds View) from the top of the box to give the Blue Devils a 1-0 lead. Just 10 minutes later, first-year Taylor Kizlik beat several Blazer defenders and placed a shot perfectly in the top left corner to make the score 2-0.

The Blazers stepped up their defensive front in the second half only allowing three shots on goal. However one of them found the net from sophomore Jesse Lankford. Grace Salwasser hit the post from around 12 yards out, and the rebound came right back to Jesse Lankford who put it in the net. This gave the Blue Devils a 3-0 lead. The Blazers scored on a corner late in the half, but a late and questionable offsides was called, retracting the goal.

The Blazers host non-conference opponent University of Wisconsin River Falls at 3 pm on Wednesday October 19 in St. Joseph, Minn.
