Blazer Soccer Downs the Falcons from UWRF 2-1

Results

The College of Saint Benedict Blazer soccer team (9-5-1 overall, 6-1-1 MIAC) pushed the ball early and often, giving them a 2-1 victory Wednesday afternoon against a tough University of Wisconsin River Falls team (6-11 overall, 3-4 WIAC).

The first half was dominated by the Blazers as they recorded six shots on goal. River Falls rarely got the ball into the zone and when they did, it was quickly knocked back out by the stellar Blazer defense.  During the 28 minute senior forward Heather Beshears (Maple Grove, MN, Maple Grove) led sophomore forward Colleen Bouchard (Cedar Rapids, IA, Xavier) perfectly, and Bouchard laced it into the right corner of the net for a 1-0 Blazer lead.

Shortly into the second half Colleen Bouchard centered the ball to Heather Beshears at the top of the box.
Beshears beat two defenders then fired a left-footed strike, which UWRF's goalkeeper tipped into the back of the net giving the Blazers a 2-0 lead.

However the game was far from over as UWRF's Janae Baron pushed the ball down the field to a wide open Eryn Lansverk. First-year goalkeeper Megan Favorite (Maple Grove, MN, Maple Grove) came out to challenge Lansverk, but Favorite slid a bit too early and Lansverk lobbed it over Favorite to make it a 2-1 Blazer lead with only five minutes left.  The Falcons had a few more opportunities in the remaining minutes but Megan Favorite came up with a few big saves securing a 2-1 win for the Blazers.

Colleen Bouchard and Heather Beshears both scored their fifth goal of the season. Favorite added six saves in the game, and Katherine Rogosheske (St. Cloud, MN, Apollo) added five shots on goal. UWRF's Eryn Lansverk scored her ninth goal of the season.

The Blazers host conference opponent Saint Mary's at 1 pm on October 22 in Saint Joseph, Minn.
