Blazer Soccer Blanks Cardinals, Win 2-0

Results

The College of Saint Benedict Blazer soccer team (10-5-1 overall, 7-1-1 MIAC) shut out the Cardinals from Saint Mary's (2-13 overall, 1-8 MIAC). The Blazers dominated the game both ways, and did not allow a shot the entire game.

The first half started off strong for the Blazers as they worked the ball into the Cardinals zone for most of the half. They recorded three shots on goal during the half, and on the third the Blazers finally capitalized. During the 27 minute off a foul, senior defender Sami Meyman (Inver Grove Heights, MN, Simley)  laced one from the other side of the field, hitting sophomore forward Colleen Bouchard (Cedar Rapids, IA, Xavier) in stride, who beat the goalkeeper to give the Blazers a 1-0 lead.

The Blazers recorded six shots on goal in the second half, and scored on the fourth from junior forward Jess Pellegrene (Maple Grove, MN, Totino-Grace). Pellegrene took a pass from sophomore midfielder Laura Kosch (Eden Prairie, MN, Benilde-St. Margaret's) and laced one past the goalkeeper for a 2-0 lead during the 74 minute.

The Blazers host conference opponent Hamline at 3:30 pm on Wednesday, Oct. 26 in Saint Joseph, Minn. If the Blazers win this game, they secure a share of first place for the MIAC title.
