The College of Saint Benedict Blazer volleyball team (11-6 overall, 3-1 MIAC) defeated Luther College tonight 3-0 in Decorah, IA.
Saint Benedict took a hard fought first set with a 25-22 win over the Norse. The Blazers produced 13 kills in the first set with a .333 kill percentage. CSB carried their momentum into the second set and beat Luther 25-20 to take a 2-0 lead. Saint Benedict matched their kills from the previous set (13) and earned a .280 kill percentage. Luther was held to a .083 kill percentage in the second set and had nine kills. The Blazers came out strong to take the third set and the match by defeating the Norse 25-20. Saint Benedict compiled 13 kills and generated a .294 kill percentage while holding Luther to a .135 kill percentage.
Leading the Blazers on the attack in tonight's match was senior outside hitter Chelsie Sobieck (Wyoming, MN, Forest Lake). Sobieck notched 13 kills and earned a .480 kill percentage. Sophomore outside hitter Lexi Alm (Stacy, MN, Forest Lake) netted eight kills for the Blazers while compiling a .412 kill percentage. Sophomore libero Chelsea Rachel (Maple Lake, MN, Maple Lake) led the Blazers in digs with nine. As a team, Saint Benedict netted 39 kills and generated a .303 kill percentage.
Saint Benedict returns to action Friday, October 7th, when they travel to Winona, MN to play conference opponent Saint Mary's University at 7 pm.
