Lacking Offensive Spark, Blazer Ice Hockey Falters to 8-1 Loss

BOX SCORE

Outshot 60-9 by conference leader Gustavus Adolphus, the College of Saint Benedict (2-9-1, 1-5-3 MIAC) ice hockey team completed their three game home stand with an 8-1 loss to the Gusties tonight at the Municipal Athletic Complex in Saint Cloud, Minnesota.

Saint Benedict showed flashes of the dangerous team many predicted them to be this season, playing evenly with Gustavus in the first and second periods before allowing five third period goals. First-year goalie Kaitlyn Rolando (Lake Elmo, MN, Tartan High School) made another impressive start in net for the Blazers collecting 43 saves through just over two periods. Rolando made 16 and 25 saves in the first and second periods respectively.

Down 3-0 at the start of the third period, Blazer senior forward Holly Reinking (Maple Grove, MN, Elk River) outskated both Gustavus defenders in a breakaway situation before burying the shot in the back of the net to make the score 3-1. The goal was Reinking's second on the season. She was assisted on the play by first-year forward Allyson Nielsen (Alexandria, MN, Jefferson High School).

Less than 30 seconds later Gustavus responded with a goal of their own, before eventually winning 8-1.

The Blazers are on the road tomorrow as they finish their series with Gustavus in Saint Peter, Minnesota. Faceoff is scheduled for 2 pm.
