Blazers Hold off Cobbers 8-1

The College of Saint Benedict Blazer tennis team (5-3 MIAC, 10-5 overall) fought off Concordia College (2-5 MIAC, 6-8 overall) 8-1 for another conference victory on Wednesday afternoon in St. Joseph, Minn.

The doubles contests proved to be close, but the Blazers pulled away in each contest.  Senior Rachel Tiegs (Rochester, MN, Lourdes) and sophomore Lauren Jones (Ogden, UT, Saint Joseph Catholic) upended Katie Edin and Ayah Kamel 8-6 at #1, junior Kylie Huether (Sioux Falls, SD , Washington) and sophomore Alyson Brandell (Elk River, MN, Elk River) won 8-4 over Amy Freeman and Melanie Gail at #2, and at #3, junior Elissa Husby (Duluth, MN, Marshall) and sophomore Sarah Rossman (Rochester, MN, Lourdes) prevailed over Julie Olson and Kelly Kalvoda 8-4.

Aside from senior Katie Rudnitski (Gilman, MN, Foley) losing 6-7, 1-6 at #3 singles to Freeman, Saint Benedict was able to take control by winning the rest of the matches.  Tiegs, Huether, Husby, Jones and Brandell all contributed singles victories to the cause.

The Blazers play their second to last regular season contest at Bethel on Saturday, April 24th at 10 am in St. Paul, Minn.
