The College of Saint Benedict Blazer tennis team (3-2 MIAC, 8-4 overall) was victorious in two matches on Sunday afternoon in Winona, defeating Saint Mary's (3-5 MIAC, 9-6 overall) 7-2 and prevailing over Wisconin-Stout (0-6 WIAC, 3-11 overall).
In the first match of the day, the Blazers tipped conference rival Cardinals of Saint Mary's in each doubles match including a 9-7 victory by senior
Rachel Tiegs (Rochester, MN, Lourdes) and sophomore
Lauren Jones (Ogden, UT, Saint Joseph Catholic). After Tiegs and junior
Kylie Huether (Sioux Falls, SD , Washington) each slipped at #1 and #2 singles, respectively, Saint Benedict rebounded by winning the remainder of the singles matches, with victories by senior
Katie Rudnitski (Gilman, MN, Foley), junior
Elissa Husby (Duluth, MN, Marshall), Jones, and sophomore
Alyson Brandell (Elk River, MN, Elk River).
CSB then scorched the Blue Devils, winning comfortably in most of the matches. Although Huether fell 7-5, 7-5 at #1 singles to Allie Hinman, the Blazers turned in two 6-0, 6-0 victories by sophomore
Sarah Rossman (Rochester, MN, Lourdes) at #5 and sophomore
Megan Seipel (New London, MN, New London-Spicer) at #6.
The Blazers return home to face Concordia on Wednesday, April 14th at 4pm in St. Joseph, MN.
