Blazers Fall to #27 Knights 8-1

The College of Saint Benedict Blazer tennis team (2-2 MIAC, 6-3 overall) lost their second conference match of the season in an 8-1 contest against #27 Carleton (5-0 MIAC, 9-3 overall) on Friday evening in St. Joseph, MN. 

The Blazers' doubles teams played the Knights competitively but were unable to gain any victories. Senior Rachel Tiegs (Rochester, MN, Lourdes) and sophomore Lauren Jones (Ogden, UT, Saint Joseph Catholic) lost at #1 to Kathryn Schmidt and Erin Gudul 9-7. Junior Kylie Huether (Sioux Falls, SD , Washington) and sophomore Alyson Brandell (Elk River, MN, Elk River) fell 9-8 (8-6) at #2 to Frances Leung and Bridget Doyle, and senior Katie Rudnitski (Gilman, MN, Foley) and sophomore Sarah Rossman (Rochester, MN, Lourdes) were defeated by Hannah Goldberg and Sarah Thappa 8-5 at #3. 

The lone victory for Saint Benedict came at #6 singles as Brandell won 6-3, 2-6 (10-8) over Goldberg. CSB wasn't able to string any more victories against the tough Carleton singles squad as Tiegs, Huether, Rudniski, Husby and Jones all lost their respective matches. 

Saint Benedict resumes non-conference play in an 11 am contest against Southwest Minnesota State on Saturday, April 10th in St. Joseph, MN.
