Blazers Start Season with 8-1 Win over Dragons

The College of Saint Benedict Blazer tennis team (0-0 MIAC, 1-0 overall) won their first match of the 2010 season 8-1 over Minnesota State Moorhead (1-0 NSIC, 1-2 overall) in Sartell, MN on Friday afternoon.

The Blazers swept the singles competition 6-0, led by captains Rachel Tiegs (Rochester, MN, Lourdes) and Kylie Huether (Sioux Falls, SD , Washington).  Senior Katie Rudnitski (Gilman, MN, Foley), junior Elissa Husby (Duluth, MN, Marshall) and sophomores Lauren Jones (Ogden, UT, Saint Joseph Catholic) and Alyson Brandell (Elk River, MN, Elk River) rounded out the singles victories for CSB.

While Saint Benedict's #1 doubles team of Tiegs and Jones fell to Kayla Huether and Kathryn Neubauer of the Dragons, doubles teams of Kylie Huether and sophomore Megan Seipel (New London, MN, New London-Spicer) and Brandell and sophomore Sarah Rossman (Rochester, MN, Lourdes) picked up wins at #2 and #3, respectively.

CSB begins conference play against St. Thomas on Saturday, February 20 at 12 pm in St. Paul, MN.
