Blazers Fall Short against Knights, 0-1

The College of Saint Benedict Blazer soccer team (2-3 MIAC, 4-5-1 overall) were unable to find a rhythm in their offense in a 0-1 loss to Carleton College (3-2 MIAC, 5-5-1) on Saturday afternoon in St. Joseph, MN.

The game was scoreless after the first period, much in part to the play of senior goalkeeper Shannon Strohm (Burnsville, MN, Apple Valley), who recorded 10 saves on the day.  It remained a defensive battle until the 73rd minute when Knight sophomore defender Rachel Foran scored off of a header from a corner kick shot by junior midfielder Megan Milligan.  The Blazers tried to rally for a goal in the last 15 minutes, but were unsuccessful due to the strong play of the Carleton defense.

Saint Benedict was out-shot 7-16 during the contest and set up for only three corner kicks compared to the Knights, who had eight.

The Blazers resume action on Saturday, October 10th against Hamline University in St. Joseph, MN at 1 pm.
