The College of Saint Benedict volleyball team finished a strong opening tournament to the season, splitting their last two matches 1-3 and 3-1 at the Wisconsin-Whitewater Invitational on Saturday.
In their first match of the day, the Blazers faced host Wisconsin-Whitewater in a well-fought contest. The Blazers won the first game 25-19, but could not gain any more momentum after giving up quick leads in the next two games, losing both games 19-25. In the fourth game the Warhawks had two runs of four straight points and a nine point run towards the end of the game, giving themselves a 14-21 lead. The Blazers battled back, but the lead was too large to overcome, eventually losing the game and the match 21-25.
In the Blazers' last match of the tournament, the Dutch of Central College looked to pull off the last victory of the tournament, and made a case to do so after winning the first game 23-25. The Blazers were able to bounce back from the first loss and strung together three straight victories in the match, winning the games 25-20, 25-21 and 25-16.
Next up for the Blazers is their second tournament of the season, where they will travel to Augsburg College. Saint Benedict opens the tournament against Wisconsin-Superior on September 5th at 4p.m.
