The College of Saint Benedict Blazers (3-3 MIAC, 7-3 overall) continue to improve their record after defeating the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Titans (1-0-1 WIAC, 5-2-2 overall) today 1-0, in a non-conference game played in St. Joseph, Minn. Despite cold winds and rain showers, the Blazers took control in the beginning and held onto the lead.
Scoring for the Blazers was first year midfielder Heather Beshears (Maple Grove, MN, Maple Grove) at the 16:38 mark. This was Beshears's second goal for the season and her collegiate career. The pass came from junior Alison Tourville (Plymouth, MN , Robbinsdale Armstrong ), who takes credit for three Blazer assists this season. The Blazer defense allowed only two shots on goal, both saved by sophomore goalkeeper Maija Schmelzer (Rochester, MN, John Marshall). Both teams had several opportunities to score, with an accumulated 17 corner kicks.
The Blazers will prepare for three games this week, including their next MIAC challenge, the Hamline University Pipers. The game will be played on Tuesday, October 7th at 4 p.m. in St. Paul, Minn.
