The College of Saint Benedict volleyball team (25-4 overall, 8-1 MIAC) saw their 18 match win streak come to an end to Gustavus, losing 27-25, 23-25, 25-27 and 15-25. The defeat also marks the first MIAC loss for the Blazers.
Saint Benedict, ranked 21st in the nation, had opportunites to put away the Gusties, ranked 20th in the country, throughout the match. But after three close sets, Gustavus was able to pull away in the fourth and final set, winning by 10 points.
The Blazers were led by junior hitter
Emma Jaynes (Hibbing, MN, Hibbing), who led the team in kills (15) and digs (18). Junior setter
Beth Hanson (Fairbault, MN, Bethlehem Academy) also recorded 51 assists and 13 digs and first-year hitter
Chelsie Sobieck (Wyoming, MN, Forrest Lake) had a double-double with 12 kills and 11 digs to support CSB.
The Blazers return home for their final regular season match of the season against 6th ranked St. Thomas on Wednesday, October 29th at 7 p.m.
