The snowy weather is not keeping sophomore softball player Kendra Swanson down. Last week, Swanson came up big at the plate to help the College of Saint Benedict go 4-0 with a pair of MIAC sweeps. For her performance, Swanson is this week’s CSB Athlete of the Week.
Â
In a sweep of Gustavus on Wednesday, Swanson had an RBI single to center field in the third inning to put CSB up 2-0 on the Gusties.
Â
Swanson’s biggest performance of the week came Saturday at the SJU Dome. She went 5-for-6 with two doubles, a home run and four RBIs against Concordia to help her team to its second sweep of the week. She had an RBI double in the sixth inning of the first game, and added a two-run homer and an RBI single in the second game. The home run marked Swanson’s first of the season and second of her career at CSB.
Â
When all was said and done, Swanson finished her week with a .545 batting average, raising her season average to .400, to put her third on the team. Swanson now has 14 hits, three doubles and one home run for the season. She also has a .571 slugging percentage and is second on the team with a .488 on-base percentage as she leads the team with 13 walks.
Â
Swanson and her teammates were scheduled to take on St. Kate’s Tuesday in St. Paul, but that game is postponed to a date yet to be determined. Next up on the schedule is a doubleheader against Augsburg Wednesday, April 18. That game is now scheduled to start at 4 p.m. at the Auggie Dome in Minneapolis.
