ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict hockey team won three games in dramatic fashion last week, and first year Jenna Timm had a hand in all three wins.
The Bennies won all three games by a single goal. The first needed a late goal to pull away, and in both wins over St. Kate’s this weekend, the Bennies went ahead early and then held onto that lead despite some late goals by the Wildcats.
The common denominator in all three wins was Timm. The first year from Maple Grove assisted on the game-winning goals Wednesday against Hamline and Saturday at St. Kate’s, and Friday night she scored the game winner herself to lift the Bennies to the win.
For her impressive four-day stretch, Timm is this week’s CSB and MIAC Athlete of the Week. She is the program’s first conference athlete of the week since Rylan Bistodeau was honored on Jan. 13, 2020. She is also just the Bennies’ third non-goalie to earn a weekly MIAC award since 2014.
CSB – which pushed its record above .500 after Saturday’s win – started the week last week with a big win over Hamline. After going up 2-0 on the Pipers, the Bennies had to fight back after Hamline scored two goals to tie the game. Timm assisted on Ava Stinnett’s game-winner at the 11:59 mark of the third period to lift Saint Benedict to its first win over Hamline since 2015.
Friday night in St. Cloud, Timm scored twice to help her team hold on for a 4-3 win over the Wildcats. Once again, the Bennies went up early, and Timm’s goals late in the second and early in the third put CSB up 4-1 before St. Kate’s came storming back to make it 4-3. But Timm’s second goal at the 2:50 mark of the final period proved to be enough.
Timm added two more assists to her weekly stat line Saturday in another 4-3 win – the team’s third over the Wildats in as many games. She assisted on CSB’s first goal of the game and also the game-winning goal at the 12:36 mark of the second. That goal put CSB up 4-1, but again proved to be the game-winner as the Wildcats scored twice in the third. Timm’s assist helped CSB sweep the Wildcats for the first time since 2005-06.
Timm finished the week with five points on two goals and a trio of assists. Her big week put her in the team lead for points (13) and assists (8) and leads her tied for the team lead with five goals this season. That moves her up into 10
th in the MIAC in total assists and 11
th in points.
Timm and the Bennies try for their fourth straight win at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4, when they head to Moorhead for a two-game series at Concordia.
