ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – Megan Erickson has been a consistent presence in the College of Saint Benedict softball team’s lineup to start her first season with the program, but this past weekend she really came to play.
Erickson led the team at the plate and more than doubled her RBI total for the season in a pair of nonconference doubleheaders against Bethany Lutheran and Buena Vista. For her impressive weekend at the plate, Erickson is this week’s CSB Athlete of the Week.
Erickson’s biggest game of the weekend – and the season – came Saturday afternoon against the Vikings. The first-year outfielder had a hand in both wins with at least one big hit to help the team to 3-0 and 6-4 victories. In the first game of the day, Erickson got the Bennies on the board early with a two-run double in the first. In the second game of the day, she went 2-for-3 with a trio of RBIs including a two-run homer – the first of her CSB career – and an RBI single.
Erickson finished Saturday with three hits, five RBIs and two extra-base hits.
Sunday, Erickson had a single in the first game against the Beavers – an 8-2 CSB win – and hit a two-run double to right field to get the Bennies within two late in a 7-5 loss.
Erickson finished the weekend with five hits and seven RBIs – which pushed her total for the season from six to 13 RBIs. She is currently second on the team with a .471 batting average and 16 hits, and leads the Bennies with 13 RBIs. She is also 11
