After a solid weekend in Duluth,
Mackenzie Schurhamer – a first year on the College of Saint Benedict the tennis team – is this week's CSB Athlete of the Week for the first time in her college career.
Schurhamer went 3-1 this weekend as CSB split a pair of matches. The team started the day with a close 6-3 loss to Division II Minnesota-Duluth, but bounced back to sweep UW-Superior 9-0.
Schurhamer was one of two singles wins for CSB against UMD over the weekend, winning 6-4, 6-2 at No. 5 singles. She and teammate
Ellen Stensrud fell 8-5 in a close match against the Bulldogs' No. 2 doubles team. Against the Yellowjackets, Schurhamer won 8-1 at No. 5 singles, and teamed up again with Stensrud to win 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.
Leading the team with 12 singles wins this season, Schurhamer is 12-3 overall in singles play and has won five straight singles matches. She is now tied for third on the team with nine doubles wins and is 9-8.
As a team, Saint Benedict is 10-4 overall, which matches the team's win total from last season. The team's 10 wins each of the past two seasons marks the most in a season since 2013-14. CSB is off now until Friday, March 30, when it is scheduled to host Gustavus.
