ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – This past spring at the 2020-21 MIAC Championships, Emily Renner used an impressive third round to pull herself into the top 10 individually.
This past weekend at the 2021 conference meet, she used a solid weekend of play to jump into the top 10 early – and then move up as the tournament progressed.
Renner finished her second conference meet in a tie for third individually for the Bennies to secure herself a second All-MIAC honor. For her big weekend, Renner is this week’s CSB Athlete of the Week.
Saturday’s first round was cut short due to heavy rain and poor course conditions, and the nine holes were split in half due to a weather delay. Renner was tied for 16
th after the first nine holes, but made the two 18-hole rounds count.
Renner’s front nine Sunday morning put her in a good position for the rest of the tournament. She recorded on eagle on the par-five fourth hole, and followed that up with a birdie on No. 5. She ended the first nine holes of the day with a second birdie to finish the first half of the course one under. Renner added one final birdie for the day on No. 17 to finish the day five over and in a tie for eighth.
In Monday’s final round, two birdies put Renner one under once again heading to the back nine, and she finished the round two over for a career-best score of 74. That score is also tied for the fourth-best 18-hole individual score in program history.
Renner finished the tournament with a 191 – good for a tie for third place individually. Her top-three finish marks the best individual finish for the Bennies since Natalie Amundson took second in 2015-16. She is also just the fifth CSB golfer to finish in the top three since 2009-10.
The top-10 finish guarantees Renner All-MIAC honors when awards are announced in Spring 2022.
