Steve Kimble heads into his sxith year as head coach for the Blazer soccer team.
In 2013 he led CSB to its second MIAC Championship in three years. The Blazers also won their second MIAC Playoff Championship in that time. St. Benedict is the only team to be in the MIAC playoffs each of the last four years. The Blazers went 16-3-1 on the year, with a 9-2 record in MIAC play. At the end of the season he was named MIAC Coach of the Year for the second time in three years. He is the only Blazer Soccer Head Coach to have won that award multiple times.
In 2011 Kimble led CSB to its fourth MIAC Championship and first ever MIAC Playoff Championship. The Blazers compiled a 13-7-3 (8-2-1 MIAC) record and advanced to the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Tournament. At the end of the season he was named the MIAC's Coach of the Year and won the NSCAA North Region Coach of the Year Award, making him the first Blazer coach to win the award since Bill Kelly won the award in 2002.
In 2009, Kimble took the position as head soccer coach for the College of Saint Benedict. During his first season, the Blazers went 10-7-1 overall and 6-5-0 in conference play, tying for fifth in the MIAC. In 2010, the Blazers went 7-3-1 in conference play and finished third in the MIAC standings. After four seasons, Kimble is 57-30-10 overall with the Blazers, with a 36-16-3 mark in conference play.
From 2003 to 2008 Kimble served as a coach and Director of Coaching for the Lakes Area Youth Soccer Association. In addition, Coach Kimble has been a Coerver Coaching Camp Clinician and Camp Director for seven years.
He began his coaching career in 1995, where he served as a St. Cloud Soccer Club coach and Director of Coaching Education until 2002. From 1998-2002, he worked with Sartell High School as the assistant girls soccer coach and track & field throws coach. Kimble also assisted in the SJU track and field program in 2000. From there, he went on to Brainerd High School, where he was hired as head girls soccer and track & field pole vault coach. In a successful run with the girls’ soccer program he was named Section 8AA coach of the year twice, won five consecutive conference titles, and qualified twice for the state tournament. In his last five years at Brainerd, Kimble’s record against Central Lakes Conference opponents was 58-5-3.
He graduated from Sartell High School in 1995 and went on to attend Saint John’s University, graduating in 1999. While attending SJU, Kimble earned All-American honors in track and field and earned a Bachelor’s degree in elementary education. He later earned a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Southwest Minnesota State University and is currently working on a second Master’s degree in Sport’s Management from St. Cloud State.
Kimble also serves as Assistant Athletic Director and oversees CSB Athletics promotions and events.
