National Girls and Women in Sport Day

National Girls and Women in Sport Day

On Saturday, Feb. 6, the College of Saint Benedict will be celebrating the 30th annual National Girls & Women in Sports Day at its women’s basketball game.

National Girls and Women in Sports Day is a day to nationally recognize women in sports. Each year, this event celebrates girls and women who participate in sports, encourages increased participation, and honors our athletic leaders. This year, the College of Saint Benedict will be honoring 2016 Breaking Barriers Award honoree, Shelly Boyum-Breen. Shelly recognized a need in children’s literature for more books that displayed girls playing sports. This inspired her to create the Shelly Bean the Sports Queen series.

On Saturday, Feb. 6 children from kindergarten to sixth grade are invited to join the Shelly for a book reading, mini basketball clinic, and other activities as part of the National Girls and Women’s in Sports Day celebration at the College of Saint Benedict. The fun starts at 1 p.m. at the Haehn Campus Center. Children will also receive a free t-shirt and free admission to the CSB basketball game.
